Geometry

For the past 3 weeks my class has been focusing on Geometry. We looked at how to make 3-D shapes, how to use a protractor and compass, how to find the centre of enlargement and how to do things on maps. My favourite part was learning how to draw 3-D shapes so i would like to share with you a cool video  how to draw a 3-D heart that looks like a hole.

Kauri Dieback

Kauri is New Zealand's biggest tree. It can grow to over 50 meters tall and the trunk girths up to,
16 meters. Did you know that these trees can live to over 2000 years?! But sadly our Kauri is dying.
A disease is killing our great giants as we speak, they say it's like finding a cure for cancer.
The future of our kauri forests is at risk from a disease called kauri dieback.
Combating the spread of this threat requires expertise from both Western science and
mātauranga Māori and needs  everyone to get involved.

              Help our kauri

My Book Review on " Turning Old into New "

Turning Old into New has a lot of facts about recycling, natural resources, and the process all our rubbish goes through. Did you know that there is a place in England that turns old gum into every thing from phone covers to shoes?!

I learnt that polystyrene in made from plastic. First they sort them by colour, there caps and labels are removed and then put into a grinder, where they are cut into small chips. After they have cut them into tiny pieces, the chips are melted and is pushed through tiny holes. As the liquid gets cooler (usually cools from the air) It turns into very thin and fine thread, thinner that hair! They are put together to make it stronger and are weaved and sewn to make cool clothing!

Did you know that New Zealanders send 2.5 million tonnes of rubbish every year? And that is enough to fill 714,286 shipping containers. A train travelling at 100 kilometres per hour, would take at least 20 days for it to pass a single crossing!

Over all I give this book 4 stars, It has a lot of facts and can change the way you feel about recycling.
Thank you for reading my book review please let me know what you think.

No Matter How Far - Chapter 3

Every week i will post another chapter of my story. keep an eye out for my posts. Please comment and tell me what you think should happen next. Make sure you read chapter 1 and 2 before you read chapter 3.

Chapter 3

The sun was now gone, and i was starving, but i didn't really notice, all i could think about was, well, everything, the part that we are somewhere in the universe and our lives could end here. " Dinner will be ready soon." He walked over to the couch and sat next to me. " Are you all right? I mean, you haven't been, here, your off with the fairy's." He looked over at me. " Huh - what, sorry i was..."
" See, this is what i mean, ever since we came inside you have been acting weird, more than before."
" I'm fine, is dinner ready?" I asked trying to change the subject. "Yeah, um, i think it's ready now." He walked into the kitchen and took the pot off the oven. "
"How do we still have power?"
" I don't know, i haven't thought about that." He served the pasta into the bowls and placed them on the miniature table with two chairs. " Eat up you'll need it, this food will last us a few weeks if we raisin it out, good thing i went shopping before this all happened." He sat down at the table and looked at me, i was still on the couch facing the other direction. " OK, i guess i am hungry."

Light slowly brightened as i gained awareness. I jumped up, pushed back the sheets and looked out the window, it was just a dream, there were people walking up and down the pavement. "Charlie are you up? Charlie!" I walked down the hallway to charlie's room and knocked on the door. "Charlie?" I pushed the door open and marched in. "Charlie! You will never believe the dream i had. Charlie?" Charlie wasn't in his room. " I'm in the living room!"
" Oh Charlie you will never guess what happened to me last night." I walked over to him, he didn't look happy but i didn't notice. " I had this dream, and we were in this forest, but it was scary... Charlie?" I looked at him he seemed to look nervous. " Sam, i knew this would happen, you would get all excited, but now i have to break it to you, last night i was looking at DNA and something happened, Sam it wasn't a dream." Charlie looked at me, i couldn't  believe what i was hearing. "But out side! There was people!"
" I know, but they can't hear or see us." He glanced out the window, and pointed at the people that stood in front of there house. Gathered around trying to see what was happening, but were held back by the police. "What's going on?"
" We aren't there." He looked at me, hopping he had said it right so i didn't blow. " We are in another dimension. The storm that hit us, the wind moved so fast it caused time to turn backwards, causing a black hole to tear in the space time continuum, that sucks us in, but spits us out, back here, but, in a different dimension. Time isn't use to living creatures like us so it's changing appearance, but that can lead to bad consequences." He used a lot of things i didn't understand, but i went along with it. " What kind of consequences?" I didn't really want to know, but i had to know, so i was prepared. " Well i don't know for sure, but maybe earth quakes, big ones and other things that could..."
" I don't want to know anymore." I walked off and sat down on my bed. My mind was racing, i couldn't understand, but i could feel there was something missing, but couldn't quite get it. I thought it would be best to sleep and wait till morning, and start a new day.

No Matter How Far- chapter 2

Every week i will post another chapter. Keep an eye out for my posts. please comment and let me know what you think should happen next! Make sure to read chapter 1 before you read chapter 2.

Chapter 2

"What happened?" I seemed to be the only one that could manage to spit out the words to say anything. "B-but, h-how." Charlie said, relived he could blurt out what was on his mind. "I'm dreaming, this can't happen, it's just, i'm sleeping. no no No NO! This can't be happening, what about, everything."
I walked around in circles trying to convince myself this wasn't happening. " This isn't happening, it can't be happening." I mumbled to myself. "Would you, just, calm down, OK, this isn't going to help the situation."
" The situation! We don't know what the situation is." I pointed out the window, at the thick foggy forest that stood, still asleep, only meters away. " If only i had the Lab here i would really like to take some of there DNA to the Lab, just look at the size of those trees, there hundreds, no Thousands of years old, they have been here for ages. Do you not find this fascinating?"
"No i do not find this amazing o-or anything, do you even know what is out there? There could be monsters bigger than those trees, that will eat us!" I panicked slightly, my breath was hotter than it would normally be, and it burnt my throat. " Well can we at least go outside and have a look?'
"Fine, but we can't go that far out, and your staying with me!"
"Yes, thank you, i will i will." He didn't have to think about it, i was hopping the part where he had to stay with me would of thrown him off.

"Are you ready?" Charlie was eager to get outside, he couldn't wait to get a close look at what was out side. "Me, am i ready, one, am i ever, and two, you are the one that spent the last fifteen minutes gathering your equipment."
"So is that a yes?" He said, he was acting as if he was ten. " Yes." I started to walk outside. "Do you think we will need a rain coat?"
"Go!" I walked on, i  hesitated, i really didn't want to know what was out here. " OK." I opened the door. " Whoa." Charlie was blown over by the beauty of the forest that stood in front of us. I couldn't move, i really wasn't expecting this. It was amazing, i don't have the words. The ground didn't have grass, but a strange green moss that spread over like a blanket, it was soft and was almost , like memory foam. " This is incredible, But how?" I slowly looked over to charlie, who had his head so far back he almost fell back. " You're kidding me, right?"
"No." He said, i don't think he quite got where i was coming from. " That's the question i have been asking this whole time! And now you care!" Charlie didn't seem to hear me, He was watching a butterfly. It had a Bright vibrant neon pink, with neon yellow spots. " I haven't seen anything like it!" I walked off, trying to get my head around the whole thing. Then there was a crunch of leaves and twigs in the darkness. " Charlie, Charlie, there is something there! CHARLIE!" I took a big step back. " What, what is it?" He looked at me, i didn't move. " Come on, there is nothing to be scared of. Just think about it, this has been here the whole time, untouched, and we are the ones who discover it." He pats me on the back and walked into the house, admiring the DNA he held. I turned around slowly walking back not daring to look back. four red beaming eyes stare.  there was a growl. I freeze i didn't want to think about what could of made that sound, so i walked on convincing myself it was my stomach. the sun slowly faded behind the trees, and the moon crept up.

No Mater How Far - Chapter 1

Every week i will post another chapter of my story. Please keep an eye out for my story chapter posts. Please leave comments and give me some of your ideas on what should happen next.

Chapter One

I was puffed, my feet aching, my head thumping so loud i was sure others could hear it.
What ever was chasing me wasn't small, i could tell because i could hear it thumping loudly towards me, this giant monster or what ever it was, it didn't appreciate me being in its territory.
The thick branches slapped hard against my cold skin and left cuts and red lines all across
my face. Now my feet were dead, they felt like they were being jabbed with 1,000 needles and knifes at once, i wanted to stop but i wasn't going to give in. I then went around a corner and spotted a hollow log covered in moss and snapped branches. I crawled in, panting, i tried to slow down my breath and keep quiet, but i couldn't help it, i put my hands over my mouth. The monster thumped past roaring and i sat there still for a moment, until it was further down the track, i knew i didn't have long to run, so i sprinted tiered, in the other direction.

2 days before...

"Charlie....  Charlie!!!!!" I shouted down the hallway. "What do you want?!" He popped his head out from his room, his chocolate brown hair glimmering in the sun that streaked through the window at the end of the hallway. "Come here, you need to listen to this...   the weather reporter on the TV, there predicting a storm, they don't understand though, it looks like a tropical storm but..." I froze. "What.. what is it?"he asked with a distressed sound in his voice. " What would a Tropical storm be doing all the way out here, in England, and not to mention in the middle of winter?" Charlie looked at me as if i had drunk to much coffee. "Sam, its probably just the global warming, we all know its getting worse"
"Yeah, i know but, it can't go from normal weather to a massive tropical storm, it'll build up gradually, and just get hotter and hotter, and more like tropical weather. Wont it?"
"Well we don't need to worry to much. Lets just get some sleep, o.k. See you in the morning Sam."
"see you in the morning."

It was a sleepless night, the wind was howling and carried the sounds of voices, the rain loudly tapped continuously on the roof. I tossed and turned not even getting a wink of sleep. and neither could Charlie , i could tell because i could hear him talking to himself. When my alarm went off at 7:00 Charlie was already in the kitchen boiling the kettle. "Did you get any sleep?" Charlie said while putting two Kenya Bold tea bags into cups. " Not a wink."
"I can tell by the look of you hair." My Jet black hair seemed to have turned into dreadlocks overnight." I lazily dragged myself to the couch and completely gave in to the couch. Charlie's slippers scuffed around on the kitchen floor. He put my cup of steaming tea on the coffee table in front of me. Charlie pulled the blinds part, letting the sun streak through hitting me, causing me to shut my eyes tightly. " Ah... Sam... Y-you.. lo-l- um- w." Charlie stammered, struggling to get out the words. " Just say it!"
"The- l-l-look... " He stood there, frozen. "UGH!" I dragged myself to the window above the sink. I could not believe what i was looking at. my mouth dropped open. Maybe i was getting some sleep after all. "What happened?"
