Geometry

For the past 3 weeks my class has been focusing on Geometry. We looked at how to make 3-D shapes, how to use a protractor and compass, how to find the centre of enlargement and how to do things on maps. My favourite part was learning how to draw 3-D shapes so i would like to share with you a cool video  how to draw a 3-D heart that looks like a hole.

Kauri Dieback

Kauri is New Zealand's biggest tree. It can grow to over 50 meters tall and the trunk girths up to,
16 meters. Did you know that these trees can live to over 2000 years?! But sadly our Kauri is dying.
A disease is killing our great giants as we speak, they say it's like finding a cure for cancer.
The future of our kauri forests is at risk from a disease called kauri dieback.
Combating the spread of this threat requires expertise from both Western science and
mātauranga Māori and needs  everyone to get involved.

              Help our kauri

My Book Review on " Turning Old into New "

Turning Old into New has a lot of facts about recycling, natural resources, and the process all our rubbish goes through. Did you know that there is a place in England that turns old gum into every thing from phone covers to shoes?!

I learnt that polystyrene in made from plastic. First they sort them by colour, there caps and labels are removed and then put into a grinder, where they are cut into small chips. After they have cut them into tiny pieces, the chips are melted and is pushed through tiny holes. As the liquid gets cooler (usually cools from the air) It turns into very thin and fine thread, thinner that hair! They are put together to make it stronger and are weaved and sewn to make cool clothing!

Did you know that New Zealanders send 2.5 million tonnes of rubbish every year? And that is enough to fill 714,286 shipping containers. A train travelling at 100 kilometres per hour, would take at least 20 days for it to pass a single crossing!

Over all I give this book 4 stars, It has a lot of facts and can change the way you feel about recycling.
Thank you for reading my book review please let me know what you think.

No Matter How Far - Chapter 3

Every week i will post another chapter of my story. keep an eye out for my posts. Please comment and tell me what you think should happen next. Make sure you read chapter 1 and 2 before you read chapter 3.

Chapter 3

The sun was now gone, and i was starving, but i didn't really notice, all i could think about was, well, everything, the part that we are somewhere in the universe and our lives could end here. " Dinner will be ready soon." He walked over to the couch and sat next to me. " Are you all right? I mean, you haven't been, here, your off with the fairy's." He looked over at me. " Huh - what, sorry i was..."
" See, this is what i mean, ever since we came inside you have been acting weird, more than before."
" I'm fine, is dinner ready?" I asked trying to change the subject. "Yeah, um, i think it's ready now." He walked into the kitchen and took the pot off the oven. "
"How do we still have power?"
" I don't know, i haven't thought about that." He served the pasta into the bowls and placed them on the miniature table with two chairs. " Eat up you'll need it, this food will last us a few weeks if we raisin it out, good thing i went shopping before this all happened." He sat down at the table and looked at me, i was still on the couch facing the other direction. " OK, i guess i am hungry."

Light slowly brightened as i gained awareness. I jumped up, pushed back the sheets and looked out the window, it was just a dream, there were people walking up and down the pavement. "Charlie are you up? Charlie!" I walked down the hallway to charlie's room and knocked on the door. "Charlie?" I pushed the door open and marched in. "Charlie! You will never believe the dream i had. Charlie?" Charlie wasn't in his room. " I'm in the living room!"
" Oh Charlie you will never guess what happened to me last night." I walked over to him, he didn't look happy but i didn't notice. " I had this dream, and we were in this forest, but it was scary... Charlie?" I looked at him he seemed to look nervous. " Sam, i knew this would happen, you would get all excited, but now i have to break it to you, last night i was looking at DNA and something happened, Sam it wasn't a dream." Charlie looked at me, i couldn't  believe what i was hearing. "But out side! There was people!"
" I know, but they can't hear or see us." He glanced out the window, and pointed at the people that stood in front of there house. Gathered around trying to see what was happening, but were held back by the police. "What's going on?"
" We aren't there." He looked at me, hopping he had said it right so i didn't blow. " We are in another dimension. The storm that hit us, the wind moved so fast it caused time to turn backwards, causing a black hole to tear in the space time continuum, that sucks us in, but spits us out, back here, but, in a different dimension. Time isn't use to living creatures like us so it's changing appearance, but that can lead to bad consequences." He used a lot of things i didn't understand, but i went along with it. " What kind of consequences?" I didn't really want to know, but i had to know, so i was prepared. " Well i don't know for sure, but maybe earth quakes, big ones and other things that could..."
" I don't want to know anymore." I walked off and sat down on my bed. My mind was racing, i couldn't understand, but i could feel there was something missing, but couldn't quite get it. I thought it would be best to sleep and wait till morning, and start a new day.
